Fishing Calendar
March Avg Air Temp: 33-56 Avg Water Temp:
50-60
Bass are suspended in and around cedar trees along coves and
pockets. Spinnerbaits and crankbaits are good choices. Later in the
month they will move on points and rocky banks and will take
spinnerbaits, crankbaits, jig & pig, and grubs. March is the
best time of the year for trophy fish (5+ lbs.). Crappie school up
in the timbered pockets and coves. The action is excellent for both
numbers and size on jigs, grubs, and minnows.
April Avg Air Temp: 44-68 Average Water
Temp: 60-70 Best spring fishing month. Bass become extremely
aggressive as they select their nesting sites on shallow rock and
gravel banks. Choose your favorite lure, they will also work.
Crappie spawn throughout the month. The action is excellent with
jigs, grubs and minnows working best.
May to early June Avg Air Temp: 53-77 Avg
Water Temp: 70-75 Bass move off spawning beds and herd up
large schools of shad and minnows off points, drop-offs, and in open
water. Topwater fishing is in its prime. Shad and minnow imitation
lures skipped on the water's surface will draw smashing strikes from
below. Giant bluegills, along with bass, will be taken at
thermocline depths on plastic worms, jigs, grubs, spoons and live
bait. Crappie fishing is good early in the month.
June to August Avg Air Temp: 64-88 Avg
Water Temp: 80-85 Summer patterns mean consistent easy
fishing. Bass and bluegills school up at the thermocline depths
(25-30 feet) on points and islands. They will hit nightcrawlers,
crawdads, grubs, plastic worms, and spoons. This is easy fishing
because the location and food preferences of the bass are very
predictable. Fishing is done directly under the boat. Summer is a
great time to take kids fishing since good action holds their
attention.
September Avg Air Temp: 46-71 Avg Water
Temp: 80-85 Summer patterns for bass and bluegill. Good
topwater action to be had early and late.
October Avg Air Temp: 46-71 Avg Water
Temp: 70-80 Bass gradually return to the shoreline and hit
spinnerbaits, jig & pig, plastic worms and grubs. Some bass stay
deep (25-40 feet) and are caught on nightcrawlers and spoons.
Shallow dwelling fish are most active on overcast days, while deep
dwelling fish hit consistently early and late.
November Avg Air Temp: 41-61 Avg Water
Temp: 60-70 Many bass cruise the rock and gravel shoreline
feeding heavily in anticipation of winter dormancy. Spinnerbaits and
topwater lures will take the larger fish.
